Independence Day 2020 Was Still Pretty Spectacular in DC

Concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus didn’t stop Independence Day celebrations, though they did look different this year than in years past. Last year, Washington DC’s “Salute to America” drew thousands to the grounds of the Lincoln Memorial, and this year, President Trump promised another celebration to remember. Here’s what Independence Day 2020 looked like in Washington, DC.

The night ended with one of the largest-ever fireworks productions by two of the country’s premier fireworks companies. Rockets were launched from an area over a mile wide, from the south end of the West Potomac Park to north of the Lincoln Memorial, as well as on the grounds of the Washington Monument. The show was visible throughout DC and parts of Northern Virginia and contained over 10,000 fireworks.

More than 800 acres of the National Mall and Memorial Parks were available for viewers, including the Jefferson Memorial, World War II Memorial, Washington Monument, National Mall ground, East Potomac Park, and more.

Remarks by the president
